Topic of the week, words that begin with the letter "O"
O is for Open. Open your mind and heart. The longest journey we make on this recovery road, is from our head to our heart.
Open your arms, accept others in your life. Give them a hug. Hugs not drugs. Drugs come in many form, anything that fills that empty space we forgot to feed and fill with spiritual things. We can hear and read something, but unless we apply them to ourselves, they mean nothing.

O is for Ouch! How long are we going to sit in our pain before we do something about it.
Emotional pain can make itself known physically. Physical pain can affect our emotional and mental state of mind. For so many years, we closed ourselves off from it, or pick up a substance to mask it instead of getting to the core issue to heal it. At the first ouch, face your fear and do what you need to do to confront it. Don't let it get to be an ouch! ouch! ouch! before you deal with it.

O - Old timers
O - Stop playing the old tapes in your head. Change the old tapes in your head by creating new tapes.

O is for Over. It is not over until it is over. We can always pick ourselves up and try again.
People say, "Get over it!" That isn't how it is done. You have to work through it, if you don't feel the feelings and deal with your past, that keeps coming up in today, there will be no over, it will fester inside.

O is for Outer. When my outside matched my inside, I felt like I had finally got a measure of recovery.
The outside was my mask to the world to hide what was brewing on inside. In early recovery, I was a red head. I started to wear makeup because my ex-wouldn't let me wear any because it was beer money for him. I came out of my pill induced depression and started to care about myself, and at first it was just a security shield. I was told that I was well preserved in alcohol because I didn't have many wrinkles and in my mid 50s, people thought I was in my 40s. This raised the self-esteem and sense of worth, yet it was superficial. As they say, the beauty comes from the inside and is reflected on the outside.

O is for Only. All we have to do is deal with this day's thoughts, behaviours, situations, emotions, and if today is rooted in the past, we only have to glance at it, we don't have to bring it into today. There is a song that says, "Only the lonely..." When we come into recovery, we are no longer alone. My Higher Power is always with me, along with the people on my support team, headed by my sponsor.

O is for Out. I am grateful for the people who went back out and carried a message to me. They did my research, and I didn`t have to go back out myself, to find it is no better out there.
For me to go back out is to die. Doesn`t matter that I am 71 years old, I am not ready to die. I want to live, in order to that, I need to stay clean and sober.
