Default Topic of the Week, Words that begin with the letter "H"

H is for Hope. Pray not for what God can do for you, but what you can do for Him. Hope for me are the 12 AA Promises. As it says, we will be amazed before we are half way. That being, half way through the Steps. Hope is putting one foot in front of the other, working the Steps to the best of my ability in today.

Just for today I choose not to use. Just for today, I have hope for a better tomorrow.

H is for Honest. How can I be honest with you, if I can't be honest with me.

The original Big Book said, "An honest desire..." to stop using, to quit drinking, quit abusing food and other substances.

I always pointed my finger at others, and honestly thought they were my problem. If you can't beat them, you join them.

I had to get honest, and come to a decision to change, and remember that recovery begins with me.

H is for Hunger. When you feel hungry, look within and see if the feeling is a physical one, or a spiritual, emotional, and/or a mental one, that is searching for food.

H.A.L.T. Hungry, Angry, Lonely, and/or Tired, can lead you to relapse or a slip in your recovery, even if you don't physically pick up your drug of choice. A sure sign is when I am thinking MORE, I know I am in my disease.

H is for Honour. Honour your mother and your father. Honour yourself and who you are in today. Honour and worship your God and give thanks,

Quote:
Act well your part, there all the honour lies.

H is for HOW. How the program works: Honesty, Open Mindedness, and Willingness. We need all this in order to recovery.

An honest look at myself, turn off the denial and remove the blinders and rose-coloured glasses. An open mind, letting go of preconceived ideas, and being open to new concepts and teachings. This is a disease of perception that says I am just F.I.N.E. (frustrated, insecure, neurotic, and emotional (or enjoying it). Willing to go to any length to maintain my sobriety. Willing to get honest and have an open mind. Willing to accept that I have the disease of alcoholism. Alcoholism is a drug. I am an addict. Willing to accept what is in today, and know it is subject to change, as long as I stay clean and sober in today. Sobriety means soundness of mind. I can not have soundness of mind, if I am caught up in the old bug-a-boos, and continue to acct out in my disease.

So often the words ¨Trust me¨are as empty as the words ¨I am sorry.¨

H is for Half. Half measures availed us nothing. They say all we need is faith the size of a mustard seed. If we put half of our energy into getting sober as we did, when we hunted to obtain our drug of choice, we will stay clean and sober.
