Greater Joys Await

Read Genesis 45:1 through 47:31

“Never mind about your belongings, because the best of all Egypt will be yours” (Genesis 45:20).

The wealthy, middle-aged couple tried to console the sobbing young girl they had just adopted. Karen was told not to pack all of her old clothes and toys because her new parents would buy her all new things. But her meager possessions had been her only sense of security and belonging. The thought of leaving them upset her. Karen wondered how these people she barely knew could ask her to make such a sacrifice. As they headed for home, her mind stayed focused on all she had left behind.

Walking through the front door, Karen’s eyes widened as she saw all the luxuries her new parents offered. Suddenly her old belongings were no longer important. Karen now had a future she could never have imagined.

We also tend to hold on to things from the past—doubts, failures, fears—that keep us from moving forward. But God has so much more to offer us—freedom, peace, joy—than we could ever dream, including a home where we will live with Him forever.

Thought for Today: God has a wonderful plan for your life.

We often forget that God has a plan. So often, I planned something and had big ideas and wondered how come it didn't turn out, when in fact, I realized I hadn't consulted my God, and didn't even figure Him in the plan to begin with.
