Topic of the Week, words that begin with the letter "U"

U is for Underscore. Take a marking pencil and underscore all the words in the Big Book that speaks to you. You can take several coloured markers and colour code them and match them with your understanding or misunderstanding of them. Things you identify with and things that are unknown.

You can go back and share them with your sponsor to find new enlightenment and understanding to the words you read.

U is for Understanding. When I went to meetings, I got to know the nature of my disease. I found myself reflected in the people around me. My sponsor said, "Take a little or lots from what those who have what you want. Just because someone is in the rooms of recovery, doesn't mean they have an understanding of the program." We each need to find and understand ourselves. My Higher Power became the God of my understanding.

U is for United. United we stand, we can do what I can't do alone.

Tradition 1: Our common welfare should come first; personal progress for the greatest number depends upon A.A. unity.

Snagged from my friend Lisa from another site. The only one I would change would be #11. I would write 'Connect with God' because I needed to ask for help with all the steps.

U is for Urgent. This is not a quick fix program, but if you do not do the do things, you will find yourself back where you came from. It is urgent and important to your sobriety to get into the Steps. We only need to do Step One 100%, the rest is a work in progress, yet for me it was urgent between life and death for me.

I was urgent to get to an understanding of the Steps and living in today, my life depended on it. There was no race to run, I just had to learn and come to an understanding as to what I needed in today, to stay clean and sober.

U is for Undo. We can't undo our past, but we can learn from it. We don't have to continue the old habits, behaviours, and thoughts, we can undo them and make new ones. We need to understand that we are not our disease. We need to understand that our Higher Power's love is unconditional.

The Light is all the might you need to successfully turn away any dark inner visitor.

Your true wish to understand a negative state initiates the entrance of that specialized Light you need to make this same wish come true.
