Recovery is not for the weak at heart; being able to hear and get the message is probably one of the hardest things you'll ever do. Recovery is full of people who were able to get the message and some who just don't seem to get it. What causes this difference is not the message itself, but in how each of us is able to be ready to hear the message. We all want to hear it, but not all of us can, because we're not ready to. We can hear the words that carry the message, but unless we're willing to do what it takes to get the message, the difficult work that makes this possible, we won't be getting the message. This work requires that we open our minds to new ideas, which many of us are unwilling to do. Next and equally hard to do is to admit that we don't know everything, especially when it comes to ourselves, that we don't have all the answers, lots of us will never get past this one. And finally the hardest part is being able to accept the message as it is, without us having to change it to our liking. If we can do these things we'll be ready to hear the message that's been yelling at us all for a long time now. We're the only ones that get to decide if we want to hear the message, and it's too bad for some of us who just won't let themselves hear the message.
