Even today with our new understanding of ourselves and of our problem that we're able to get from being in recovery there's still a stigma that remains about us having this problem that will still outweigh what we'll end up thinking about ourselves about having it. We still live with the stigma from the past that came out of ignorance of what it means to have this problem, and what can be done about having it. Today for all of us this is still an uphill battle we are constantly coming up against. One of the misconceptions that came out of this ignorance was that somehow we are weak. While this may prove to solve what couldn't be understood at the time about us having this problem, it is by no means accurate. Just the opposite is actually true for those who have this problem. It takes great strength for us to live with being the way we are that comes as the result of having this problem that none of us asked to have. Today we can laugh at those who think we're weak because we have this problem, because we now know they have no idea of what they're talking about, or what it's like to have this problem, or even more importantly what can be done that helps when it comes to having this problem. Sometimes today Recovery is still the only place we can go where we can get refuge from the stigma that is still out there about us who have this problem.
