Default Topic of the week, words that begin with "J"

J is Just for Today. Just for today, I choose not to use, no matter what.

http://www.afgdistrict5.org/today.pdf

An Al-Anon Prayer

From NA:

Just for today I will try to live through this day only & not tackle my whole life problem at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Just for today I will adjust myself to what is & not try to adjust everything else to my desires. I will take my “luck” as it comes & fit myself into it.

Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study; I will learn something useful; I will not be a mental loafer; I will read something that requires effort, thought & concentration.

Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn & not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count; I will do at least two things I don’t want to do–just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.

Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as good as I can, dress becomingly, talk low, act courteously, criticize not one bit, not find fault with anything & not try to improve or regulate anybody except myself.

Just for today I will have a program. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry & indecision.

Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself & relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective on my life.

Just for today I will be unafraid. I will enjoy that which is beautiful & will believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.

NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS VERSION

=======================================

Just for today my thoughts will be on my recovery, living & enjoying life without the use of drugs.

Just for today I will have faith in someone in NA who believes in me & wants to help me in my recovery.

Just for today I will have a program. I will try to follow it to the best of my ability.

Just for today, through NA, I will try to get a better perspective on my life.

Just for today I will be unafraid, my thoughts will be on my new associations, people who are not using & who have found a new way of life. So long as I follow that way, I have nothing to fear.

The last one is what I always want to read when I go to a NA meeting.

J is for Joy. Joy of Living. We are given a second chance at life. Why aren't we enjoying it. Are you playing the victim and martyr because you can't drink no more. Just because you can't drink SAFELY, there is so much more we can do because we aren't drinking.

J is for Justification. It is not a recovery tool, it is part of our disease. If you have to justify something, it probably means, that deep in your mind, you know you shouldn't have said, thought or acted on it.

Just accept it and move on. You don't have to justify your existence. It is okay to be you. That is why at one time, I used the name Just Jo. I use to say, it is okay, it is just Jo, or I would say, "It is a Jo thing," and would speak about myself in the third person.

J is for Just. Just be. Just be in the moment. Just do what is in front of you and allow the rest to take care of itself. Just for today, first things first, and that is my sobriety.

Just for today, I choose not to use. When I have a challenge, I just pick up the phone or go to a meeting.

J is for Job. We each have a job to do each day. When it becomes a chore, we need to ask ourselves how this has come to be.

Working the Steps shouldn`t be hard work, it may be tiring because emotions are more tiring than physical labour.

The program is suggestions only, but I have found that there are some darn well betters, or I will relapse. That darn well better, is to look in a mirror and see what is reflected from within me, instead of looking out the window to see what I can get that isn`t mine, as they say, the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

I was jobless, unemployable and sick and tired of being tired. I have been feeling that way lately because of my pain, which means I haven`t been doing my job. I am allowing my pain to keep me from doing what I need to do.

I went back to school, got a certificate for Business Administration on Computers. All it did was make me realize that I had done my time, and it was better to volunteer, and allow the young folk to get into that old rat race, a place I just didn`t have the energy to go to in today.

It is important to have purpose and be responsible, no matter what your job is.

J is for Just. I just forgot to start a new post. Just for today, my day is going to be a good night, and will start my day in just a few hours.

Justification is part of my dis-ease. It just doesn't make things right!

This is how I felt earlier and came on line.
