Make Time with God a Priority
John 6:15 If the devil can't convince you to be idle and passive, he will drive you to do too much. As soon as you are out of balance, he can devour you (see 1 Peter 5:8). The word disciple comes from the word discipline. To be a disciple of Jesus, you must discipline yourself to follow his ways. Jesus spent a great deal of time going about doing good for people, but He balanced His time by getting alone to pray and commune with the Father. Time with God renews your strength to do good things that you want to do for others. Live a balanced life by spending time with Him. From Starting Your Day Right by Joyce Meyer

First thing first of me is my sobriety. Without it, I have nothing. I am blocking my God from my life. When I was using, He was not my first thought, and most times, He was only there to cover my back and save my butt, when I got into trouble.
So in sobriety, I need to go to Him, because without Him, I can't stay clean and sober. It is not the substance that I choose to pick up but my thinking behind my dis-ease that takes me back into that old soul sickness. To save my soul, I need my God. It is good to live (give thanks), it is good to have fun (gratitude), but I also need to take that alone time, with me and my God. When I come upon temptation, what ever form it takes, I can call Him and He is there. Once I yield to the temptation, God becomes a second thought. Are you too busy to take time for the God of your understanding? Are you having so much fun and doing so well, you forget who got you there? A grateful addict/alcoholic will never pick up. Go to your God and He will strengthen you.
