Would you ever bungee jump? What would it take for you to trust the line enough to fall from a ledge, believing it would catch you? For most of us, the tension between fear and the desire to experience the exhilaration of the fall will be resolved in fear's favor, and we can only imagine what it would feel like to safely free fall.

When it comes to the invitations of Jesus in our lives, it takes courage for the tension created to be resolved in God’s favor and to trust Him. The disciples left their careers and families, and planned futures to follow Jesus. Although they sometimes failed, Jesus patiently and lovingly led them.

Sadly, the rich young ruler could not see past the loss of his riches. The tension he felt in response to Jesus’ invitation was resolved in fear’s favor. He walked away from the Creator of the world who was offering him more than he would have lost. What is Jesus inviting you to do? If we can look past the enormity of what He is asking and remember His power and faithfulness, we find the courage to jump.
