P is for Participate. I need to take part in my life and not just let it slip by. I need to be an active participant. The same with my home group, I need to be an active participant and not just occupy a chair, but do service like being a greeter, setting the meeting up, putting things away, putting out literature, wash coffee cups and throw away the garbage. Then you can be a GSR or Inter-group Rep. It is not what my group can do for me, it is about what I can do for the group.
Play nice.

P is for Part of the program. We do a part at a time, we don't do a part and quit. They say take what you need and leave the rest. I would suggest not doing jut a couple of things, like Steps One and Steps 12. All you have to share is your old ways and makes no room for the good stuff.

P is for Persevere. Keep trying, keep coming, don't leave until the miracle happens. At the beginning, all I could do was put one foot in front of the other and get myself to a meetings. We only get out of recovery what we put into it. Persever and you will gradually see the growth with yourself. Others will see it in you, before you are aware of the changes within yourself.

P is for Punish. For so many years we punished ourselves or allowed others to punish because we thought we were unworthy. Often we punished others for the wrongs they committed to you, real or imagined. Abuse of any kind, mental or physical is not acceptable. We are worthy. We are children of God. We are lovable.

P is for Plenty, An alcoholic/addict will have plenty of things to be grateful. The Promises give us many gifts, but there are other promises through out the pages of recovery. My God has given me plenty and there have been times when I lost plenty, but not always of God's Will, but by my pig-headed stubbornness. or as my stead fast contrariness.

P is for Product. We are products of our environment. They say addiction is inherited. In some cases, that may be true, it can jump generations too. I think it is probable that we are like those around us. There are people in the program that i would never have drank with.

P is for Prayer
Through prayer and meditation, we keep in contact with our Higher Power. It helps us grow on spiritual lines. IF we are to do step 3 and turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him, we must maintain communication with Him. |
