Don’t Let Others Control You

I prefer to think of it as agreeing to disagree. When I was 2 years sober, I went to my sponsor and told her that a guy disagreed with my share and said I was talking from my head instead of my heart." She said, "It is okay dear, if that is where you are at, it is okay." I couldn't figure out how he had a right to disagree with my experience, strength, and hope.

I know now at 2 years, I had a lot to learn. Perhaps he had already learned something I didn't know. To my way of thinking, he should have shared his experience instead of questioning mine.

It was a good lesson. I can't allow others to dictate my words and my actions. Just because they are in the rooms of the different fellowships, it didn't mean their word were gospel and right for me.

I lived my life through others for many years. I didn't know it was okay to be me. I continually gave up my power, didn't know that I could take it back. Abuse can do that to you.
