Default About Fear

YOUR DAILY INSPIRATION

I am afraid. I am afraid of failing, afraid for my children, afraid for the world and afraid of unknown things. I am NOT afraid of dying, my faith is strong. So how can it be that I harbor so much fear in other areas of my life. As I grow older, my fears change, but they do not subside. Why oh why cannot I place my life in the hands of God? Or, perhaps it is not fear, but worry..regardless; it makes for long days and longer nights – not all the time, but it never completely leaves.

I remember a story of a man traveling at night. He must get to his destination by morning, and then he comes to a frozen pond. He cannot go around or turn back, so not knowing how thick the ice is; he starts to crawl across. With every movement, he expects to hear the crack of breaking ice. Slowly, oh so slowly, he inches his way across. Then suddenly he hears the clop clop clop of a horse drawn wagon. It proceeds across the pond at a good pace and is accompanied by the joyful singing of the driver. Of course, his confidence is heightened and he scurries across to his destination, walking upright.

Perhaps, that is what I am doing …. crawling through life, just waiting for something to go wrong. How can I become more like the singing wagon driver? It just all sounds so easy, but you may know that it is not.

Fear is addressed so many times in the Bible, there are countless books, novels, articles and blogs addressing the subject with great words of wisdom and experience. In the dark and silence of night..these may help…but the real answer is within each of us. Fear is based on the unknown, hence..getting all the info should help – right? Maybe.. but I am thinking that we need to start walking upright holding the hand of God. Remember that feeling as a child? Holding your mom or dad’s hand for security. Let us all pray to walk upright – holding the hand of our Father, and proceeding across that frozen pond we call life, and perhaps..even singing joyfully as we go.

Lord, Father of all, I ask that you hold our hands and allow us to walk upright and sing joyfully. Please take away the fears of the night and allow us to walk in your path, knowing that you will be there..everyday, every time. Amen.
