Default The Helpful High

The Helpful High by Victoria Osteen

I've found that I am truly the happiest in life when I'm helping other people. When I get my eyes off of my circumstances and focus on how I can help others move forward, there's no greater joy. I believe that we all are the happiest and healthiest when we are reaching out to others. In fact, there was a study on happiness that was interesting because it talked about how our actions can create the emotion of happiness within us. You would think a person would be happiest on vacation or when they got a present. But this study showed that the emotion of happiness really comes from the sense that you are being helpful! That's because your purpose is tied to helping someone else. The study called this feeling "the helpful high!" It's that wonderful feeling you get when helping someone else.

Today, do yourself a favor and look for ways to be helpful to others. If you are feeling down, if you are feeling discouraged, encourage someone else. Push someone else forward. I believe this is the principle of sowing and reaping in action! When you step out to help someone else, you are really helping yourself—you are sowing seeds for happiness in your future!

"A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." (Proverbs 11: 25, NIV)
