Not too sure, we all don't do this, but none does it better than a paranoid alcoholic/addict.
We focus on something, become totally obsessive/compulsive about it, and there is no way we are going to give it up or let it be, never mind letting it go. It becomes the be all and end all, and everything and everyone in our life gets put aside. It is one of the natures of our disease. That is why we need to go to our God to have Him remove it from us, what ever "it" is, and when one is gone, another can take it's place if we don't continue to let go and let God. When we look at something, hold onto it, it grows and becomes a burden and is blown out of proportion. Our God brings it back to the right size and it becomes manageable, through Him.
