Keeping It
Once we reach sobriety through getting sober we'll want to keep it. No doubt we are better off than we were before. What I didn't understand is there are differences between what we do to get sober and what we need to do to maintain our sobriety. Of these the biggest is working with someone else who is trying to get sober. A word of caution here, that what we have is not bulletproof. So in working with others I have had to learn that if I continue to work with someone when they're not ready, I can do damage to my own sobriety. This was a hard lesson to learn and understand. I now know when someone is ready, and when they're not. If it seems like I can't say anything wrong to them then they're ready, and if it seems like I can't say anything right, they're not. I'll just wait to work with them meanwhile moving on to find else someone to work with.
